4/18/06 Attorney Bernard Pellegrino unveils Qunnipiac University’s housing plan in hopes of improving the University’s relationship with the Town of Hamden

Representing Quinnipiac University, Attorney Pellegrino proposed the five-year master plan proposal under which the University will bring up to 95% of the student population into guaranteed campus housing by August 2008. The proposal, which needs to pass through several more hearings, would add 2,300 student beds (in both traditional dormitories and apartment-style housing) and 2,200 parking spaces to the new Sherman Avenue campus by 2008-09. In an effort to reduce commuter student population and keep enrollment within its on campus housing capacity, University officials hope this plan will only help to improve relations between residents and the University.

The new housing would surround the new BankNorth Athletic Center located on the soon to be opened Sherman Avenue Campus. Also included as part of the proposal will be a 40,000 square foot student activity center, a 150,000 square foot Graduate Medical Education Center and a 2,000 car, six-story underground parking facility. The Special Permit applications for these new facilities are expected to be filed this fall.

Attorney Pellegrino has represented the University for all of it's zoning matters since 1997. During that time the University has received approvals that have resulted in over $300 million dollars in infrastructure improvements and additions.
