North Haven Lacrosse Club Donates to Elementary Schools

Attorney Bernard Pellegrino believes in volunteering much of his time to give back to his community and presently serves as an officer of two organizations that focus on children. As the president of the North Haven Education Foundation, he is actively involved in providing additional financial support to the school district. On a very cold afternoon in early December, he joined a hardy group of volunteers supporting the foundation’s effort to raise funds by placing luminaries on the town green prior to the tree lighting ceremony, and he has been the driving force behind a new website for the foundation. As the vice president of the North Haven Lacrosse Club, he has announced that the club has “recently donated mini lacrosse packages to all of our elementary schools,” adding that a formal presentation had been made by Club President Paul Campanelli to the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Robert Cronin, at their latest club meeting. The president stated, “The North Haven Lacrosse Club donated 130 mini lacrosse sticks, goalie sticks, and goals to the North Haven Board of Education for use at the four Elementary Schools.”

Pellegrino said that the sticks and goal sets were purchased and donated by the club to the school system in response to the growing popularity of the sport of lacrosse in North Haven. He explained that the funds used to purchase the equipment were generated by the fundraising activities of players and parents. He added, “The goal of the program is to help increase awareness of the great game of lacrosse in our community, as well as to promote the physical conditioning attributes associated with the game. As you may know, the game of lacrosse was invented by Native Americans in the 17th century, and is one of the oldest team sports played in North America.”
